單字強化 (Vocabulary Enhancement)

　　　 　 這個單元主要是分享一些商用英文中，常用的英文單字，是否有其他更「專業」的用法？無論是在會議上做簡報，或是英文書信，可能會出現「詞窮」的現象。我們拿「重要」這個單字舉例說明，同一段話中，時常會重複使用這個詞。例如，「這位客戶很重要。明天與他們有一個重要的會議。請在會議之前準備好重要的文件。」 (This is an important client. We have an important meeting with them tomorrow. Please prepare the important documents before the meeting.) 當然，使用中文的時候，很容易加上不同變化或替代文字。用英文表述的話，你是不是也能運用自如呢？

如何形容「重要」？ (How to describe "important"? )

以下分享不同情況下，「重要」的替代文字。

形容重要的訊息或重要的事情 

Valuable   (adj.) 有價值的

例句：He was able to provide some valuable information.

他能夠提供一些有價值的資訊。

Key   (adj.) 重要的，關鍵性的

例句：Self-confidence is the key factor in any successful career.

自信是任何成功之道的關鍵因素。

Salient   (adj.) 顯著的

例句：She began to summarize the salient points of the proposal.

她開始總結提議中的重點。

註：「重點」翻譯為"key point"，較進階的用法可用"salient point"；另一個常見的組合為"salient feature"，就是「要點」的意思。

Crucial   (adj.) 至關重要的；關鍵的；決定性的

例句：Her work has been crucial to the project's success.

她的工作對於這個專案的成功至關重要。

Vital  (adj.) 至關重要的

例句：It's absolutely vital that you follow all procedures.

按照所有程序完成，這至關重要。

Critical  (adj.) 關鍵性的；決定性的

例句：His attendance is critical to the success of the meeting.

他的出席對於這次會議的成功是不可或缺的。

Essential  (adj.) 必要的，必不可少的

例句：Government support will be essential if the project is to succeed.

這個企劃案能否成功，政府的支援至關重要。

形容重要的人

Big   (adj.) 重要的；名氣很大的

例句：I am flying to Tokyo to meet a big client.

我將飛到東京去見一位大客戶。

Dominant   (adj.) 佔優勢的；舉足輕重的

例句：We are seeking for a dominant business partner within Asia.

我們正在亞洲尋找一位舉足輕重的商業夥伴。

Foremost   (adj.) 最重要的；頂尖的

例句：She's one of the foremost experts on human resource.

她是人力資源領域最頂尖的專家之一。

Influential   (adj.) 有影響力的

例句：An Influential friend helped him to find a decent job.

一位有影響力的朋友協助他找到一份還不錯的工作。

Well-connected   (adj.) 很有背景的；人脈很廣的

例句：Hern Influential friend helped him to find a decent job.

一位有影響力的朋友協助他找到一份還不錯的工作。

回到我們一開始的範例：「這位客戶很重要。明天與他們有一個重要的會議。請在會議之前準備好重要的文件。」
